Domaine Roulot's Meursault from the upper hillside of Meux Chavaux, marked by precision, tension and freshness. 2023
The Meursault Meix Chavaux 2023 from Domaine Roulot comes from a climat situated on the upper slope of Meursault's hillside, near the Auxey-Duresses appellation. This cooler, more wind-exposed position, with stony and chalky soils, produces wines of particular tension, precision and beautiful mineral energy.
At Domaine Roulot, the emblematic estate of the appellation under Jean-Marc Roulot's direction, each parcel is worked with extreme rigour to capture the terroir's true identity. Viticulture favours controlled yields and meticulous soil work, while vinification remains very natural. The ageing is long and measured, using little new oak to preserve the purity of Chardonnay and the fine structure that define the domaine's signature.
Meix Chavaux yields a Meursault of particularly straight and elegant style. The nose reveals notes of fresh citrus, green apple, white flowers and damp stone, with a subtle hint of almond. On the palate, the wine seduces through its tension, precision and elegant texture, with a clear mineral frame that extends the finish with plenty of freshness.
The 2023 vintage brings out this terroir with fine balance between fruit maturity and natural vivacity. Airier and more incisive than lower slope Meursaults, this wine will gain complexity with several years of ageing.
At table, it pairs beautifully with oysters, scallops, grilled fish, steamed turbot or delicately creamed poultry. Its cellaring potential spans generally 8 to 12 years, during which it will develop more complex nuances while retaining its fine tension.
