An isolated parcel, an exceptional Pinot Noir, the fine lace of Vosne-Romanée at its finest.
The Vosne-Romanée La Colombière 2023 from Domaine Benoît Chevallier is a rare and precious cuvée, the fruit of a singular approach, a vintner who chose to isolate this parcel for separate vinification and bottling, convinced that La Colombière deserved to exist alone, in the full expression of its identity. More refined than the classic Vosne-Romanée village, this single-parcel cuvée reveals a complexity and depth that set it immediately apart. Farmed in organic viticulture across a domaine of just 4 hectares, this wine embodies the most demanding artisanal work.

The lieu-dit La Colombière

La Colombière is one of the most charming lieux-dits of the Vosne-Romanée terroir, situated in the heart of the village, midway between the National Highway and the vignerons' houses, in the exact east-west axis of the Romanée-Conti and La Romanée. Its name evokes the medieval history of the village, when a colombier, a building typical of a seigneurial estate, once stood here, likely belonging to the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Vivant, who were then owners of substantial and beautiful vineyards in Vosne-Romanée. The soils of La Colombière are clay-limestone, with a fine and stony structure, characteristic of the Côte de Nuits piedmont. This soil profile, less deep than some of its neighbours, naturally disciplines vine vigour and concentrates the aromatic expression of Pinot Noir. The domaine's vines, around 60 years old, produce very low yields that feed remarkable concentration and complexity for a village appellation.

Tasting profile

The colour is a luminous, transparent ruby with fine intensity. The nose shows great finesse and immediate elegance, with aromas of fresh cherry, raspberry and tart red fruits mingling with delicate floral notes—violet, peony—heightened by a light spice and a hint of damp earth that speaks to the nobility of the terroir. On the palate, the texture is silky and precise, with a natural tension that brings directness and length. The tannins are remarkably fine, the acidity fresh and lively, supporting an elegant structure without ever weighing it down. The finish is persistent, aromatic and mineral, with that airy character distinctive of the finest Vosne-Romanées. A cuvée that marries the pleasure of youth with genuine cellar potential.

The domaine

Benoît Chevallier founded his domaine in 2019 by reclaiming family land cultivated for three generations in Vosne-Romanée. A former IT engineer, he now tends his vines alone, including parcels classified as Premier Cru in both Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges. From his first vintage, the domaine was awarded the Young Talents Trophy and praised by the Wine Advocate as one of the rare new talents to emerge in Vosne-Romanée in recent years. Organic viticulture is practised across the entire domaine, with the constant ambition to reveal, vintage after vintage, the purity and singularity of each terroir.

Food and wine pairings

This Vosne-Romanée La Colombière pairs beautifully with roasted Bresse chicken with morels, guinea fowl supreme with truffles, veal fillet en cocotte, or porcini risotto. It will also find fine harmony with soft-paste cheeses, such as young Époisses or Brillat-Savarin. Its finesse and precision make it a table wine as much as a wine for contemplation.
