Fine red fruits, rose and soft spices. Elegant and silky, with the characteristic delicacy of Vosne, precise and very pleasant.
The Vosne-Romanée Aux Réas 2023 from Cyprien Arlaud is the most precious and refined village cuvée of the négociant activity, a bottle that speaks in discretion and elegance, lovingly tended by the Domaine Arlaud team and sourced from one of the finest terroirs of the commune in the "Village" appellation. An elegant and refined wine that distinguishes itself through its floral aromas and velvety texture, with superb balance. An entry into the world of Vosne-Romanée by the small door, but with great talent.

The terroir of Aux Réas

The fruit comes from the vineyard Aux Réas, adjacent to the 1er Cru Clos des Réas. It is a vineyard entirely managed by the Domaine Arlaud team. The vines average over 50 years old. This proximity to Clos des Réas, a classified Premier Cru of Vosne-Romanée, is the key to understanding this terroir: Aux Réas benefits from a geological and landscape environment that gives it an elegance and complexity that far exceed that of a simple village wine. The soils are limestone, well-draining, with the argillaceous-limestone composition characteristic of Vosne-Romanée that gives Pinot Noir its silky texture, its delicate floral notes and its profound minerality. Ageing is conducted in oak barrels for 14 to 18 months, with racking in air during ageing and 25 percent new oak. Bottled at Domaine Arlaud, without fining or filtration, according to lunar cycles. Vinification is done with indigenous yeasts, and ageing lasts 14 to 18 months in barrels with 15 percent new oak.

Tasting profile

Aux Réas speaks in discretion and elegance. Pinot Noir expresses itself faithfully through violet and ripe dark fruit notes. A light oak indicates traditional and careful ageing, also announcing a fine tannin structure, well integrated. Aux Réas reveals a delicate nose of violet and dark fruits supported by light oak. Silky tannins frame a supple and dense palate, all in harmony. Aromas of wild berries, plum and blackcurrant with touches of Asian tea, violet and stony minerality on the nose. At Cyprien Arlaud, ageing is precise and respectful: no filtration or fining, bottling by gravity following lunar cycles. The oak remains discreet, always in service of balance, for elegant, vibrant wines capable of aging with grace. A Vosne-Romanée village of sincerity and finesse that honour the commune's name.

The domaine

Cyprien Arlaud represents the third generation of Domaine Arlaud, founded in 1942 at the meeting of the Burgundian woman Renée Amiot and the Ardéchois Joseph Arlaud. In 2013, Cyprien succeeded his father Hervé and has led the domaine in biodynamics since 2009, becoming the first certified Biodyvin domaine in Morey-Saint-Denis in 2014. Since 2012, his passion for Burgundy's terroirs in all their diversity has led him to develop a négociant activity under the Cyprien Arlaud label, for which his team cultivates the vines from pruning to harvest with the same biodynamic rigour as for the family domaine. He practices slow and controlled oxygenation, favouring silky tannins and great finesse. Sulphur is used sparingly, only when necessary.

Food pairings

This Vosne-Romanée Aux Réas will pair beautifully with puff pastry of veal sweetbreads and morels, a hot small meat pâté, roasted chicken with herbs, duck breast with cherries or Bresse chicken in cream. It will also find fine harmony with aged soft cheeses such as Époisses or Brillat-Savarin. Served between 15 and 16 °C, with light decanting advised, it will reveal all the floral discretion, tannin finesse and natural elegance of a Vosne-Romanée village vinified with care and conviction.
