Light red fruits, spice and subtle florals. A precise, digestible Ploussard from the Jura by Faudot, fresh, supple and genuinely authentic.
The Arbois Ploussard En Genevret 2024 from Domaine Sylvain Faudot is one of the most engaging and sincere cuvées from this vigneron in Montigny-lès-Arsures, the Jura village historically regarded as the birthplace of Vin Jaune. A terroir-driven Ploussard, made with the precision and respect for individual parcels that define the domaine's signature, offering bright, clean fruit, small red berries, and the pure, direct style characteristic of this unique Jura cépage.

Terroir and the vineyard

The En Genevret lieu-dit is a Ploussard parcel planted on the argilo-calcareous soils typical of the Arbois appellation, on the hillsides surrounding Montigny-lès-Arsures and Saint-Cyr-Montmalin. These marly and limestone Jurassic soils, rich in blue and grey clay, are precisely what gives Ploussard on these terroirs its particular character: a slightly faded, almost translucent colour that reflects the naturally low pigmentation of the berries, and a lively, natural acidity that gives these wines their characteristic gourmandise, lightness and drinkability. Sylvain Faudot tends his 6 hectares of vines in organic farming with deep respect for nature and terroir, emphasizing the purity and honesty of each cépage. Vinification is natural and minimalist: fermentation with wild yeasts, precise ageing in tank or barrel according to each cuvée, with careful oversight of oxidation. The approach is resolutely parcel-based, each lieu-dit yielding a distinct cuvée that speaks frankly of its origin.

Tasting profile

The colour is a slightly faded red with pink and orange tints, translucent and luminous, displaying the immediate visual lightness characteristic of Jura Ploussard. The nose is pure and direct, with aromas of crunchy small red fruits, raspberry, redcurrant and tart cherry, touched by light floral notes and a subtle earthy, spicy character typical of the cépage. Aromatic frankness and fruit clarity are the absolute signature of this terroir-driven Ploussard. On the palate, the wine is bright and lively, with fresh, naturally integrated acidity that brings energy and drinkability to the light, precise body. The tannins are of absolute fineness and restraint, almost imperceptible, in the fluid, digestible style characteristic of this cépage. The finish is fruity, tart and persistent, with a freshness and lightness that immediately invites another glass.

The domaine

Sylvain Faudot is a passionate vigneron based in Montigny-lès-Arsures in the Jura, a village historically regarded as the birthplace of Vin Jaune. After studying oenology and working in various vineyard roles, he took over the family vines in 2003 and has steadily built a 6-hectare domaine farmed organically. His range reflects all the diversity and singularity of the Jura vineyard: Vin Jaune, Vin de Paille, Savagnin, Chardonnay, Trousseau and Ploussard, each cuvée vinified separately in strict respect of parcellary and the natural expression of the cépage.

Food pairing

This Arbois Ploussard En Genevret pairs beautifully with fine Jura charcuterie such as Morteau saucisson or poached Montbéliard sausage, sliced Jura ham, an onion tart, aged Comté or lightly roasted poultry. Served lightly chilled between 13 and 15 °C, it will reveal the fruity gourmandise, natural lightness and parcel authenticity of an Arbois Ploussard signed by one of the most discreet and convincing craftsmen in the Jura's viticultural revival.
