Red and black fruits with spice and earthy notes. A precise and structured monopoly from Château de Chamilly, with supple tannins and fine length.
The Mercurey Clos de la Perrière 2024 from Château de Chamilly is one of the domaine's signature cuvées, a fine monopoly at the heart of Mercurey village, entirely owned by the Desfontaine family. It combines roundness, ripe fruit, and silky tannins that give it its suppleness, a historic clos of remarkable concentration and a serious Burgundy wine.
Terroir and vineyard
The Clos de la Perrière is a small historic enclosure at the centre of Mercurey village, on chalky soils rich in scree, which give the Pinot Noir an upright structure and natural freshness. The domaine's philosophy rests on meticulous parcel work, clean viticulture in conversion to organic farming, and gentle vinification that favours fruit and tannin finesse. Harvesting is by hand, and ageing takes place in oak casks that bring a firm core of spiced tannins and a subtle oak note.
Tasting profile
The colour is cherry red. The nose shows ripe fruit, dark cherry and ripe raspberry, with violet, spice and a hint of cool stone. The palate is generous with silky tannins, fleshy and full, more structured than the domaine's other Mercureys, with fine tannin grain, lithe matter and good concentration. A mineral energy stretches the finish, long and fresh.
The domaine
Château de Chamilly, built in the 17th century, stands at the north of the Côte Chalonnaise, twenty minutes south of Beaune. Vignerons for twelve generations, the Desfontaines acquired it in the early 19th century. Véronique and her sons Xavier and Arnaud now manage thirty hectares across Burgundy, Bouzeron, Montagny and Mercurey, vinifying each climat separately.
Food pairing
This Mercurey pairs well with duck breast, grilled meats, white meat, or a cheese with character such as Époisses. Served around 16 to 17°C, it can be enjoyed in its early years for the fruit, or kept in cellar for several years as the tannins integrate.
