Marine botanicals and sugar kelp, citrus and delicate juniper. A refined Scottish gin from the Hebrides, fresh, saline and of distinctive aromatic elegance.
Isle of Harris Gin is a Scottish gin from the Outer Hebrides, distinguished by a unique botany found nowhere else, sugar kelp, a seaweed hand-harvested by divers off the wild coasts of the Isle of Harris.
A release from Isle of Harris distillery, distilled from nine botanicals including juniper berries, citrus and classic aromatic plants, combined with sugar kelp, a brown seaweed harvested by hand in the cold waters surrounding the island. This gin is bottled at 45% ABV. Isle of Harris remains the sole distillery on the island, in the Outer Hebrides, and its gin has quickly established itself as a reference point in the revival of Scottish gin, grounded in the authenticity of its maritime terroir.
Ageing and provenance
Distilled from a blend of classic gin botanicals and sugar kelp hand-harvested by local divers, this gin marries the traditional aromatic structure of juniper with a maritime freshness and subtle umami salinity distinctive to this rare seaweed. The sugar kelp, sustainably and artisanally harvested off the Harris coast, brings a subtle roundness and delicate iodine note that sets this gin apart from most continental productions. Isle of Harris, founded in 2015, was the first legal distillery on the island, nestled in the small village of Tarbert in the heart of the Outer Hebrides.
Tasting profile
On the nose, fresh citrus brightness melds with lively juniper berries, a delicate floral touch and a hint of iodine evoking the sea breeze. Beneath these aromatic layers, sugar kelp brings a discreet roundness and subtle umami, carried by notes of coriander and fresh root. A whisper of pine and herbaceous touch add further complexity, the signature of Hebridean terroir. On the palate, the gin is round and silky, balancing the classic juniper structure with a distinctive maritime sweetness. The palate reveals notes of citrus, juniper, fresh spices and subtle salinity that frame the whole. The finish is soft and fresh, with a gently iodine and floral final note.
The house
Isle of Harris is a Scottish distillery founded in 2015 in the village of Tarbert, the first legal distillery on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. Its gin, created in collaboration with a respected master distiller, quickly gained international recognition through pioneering use of sugar kelp, which has become the house's emblematic signature.
Tasting and pairings
This Isle of Harris Gin is best enjoyed as a Gin and Tonic, garnished with a grapefruit slice or a sprig of rosemary, to fully reveal its maritime and floral freshness. It works equally well in delicate cocktails that showcase its iodine roundness. It pairs beautifully with oysters, seafood, smoked salmon or fresh goat cheese, whose freshness responds wonderfully to the subtle salinity and distinctive maritime roundness characteristic of this gin.
